The Durham County Badminton Association Management Committee made a difficult decision in 2022 that the junior county squad will not be running for the 2022/23 or 2023/24 seasons. This is due to a number of factors such as high running costs and difficulty finding a suitable venue in central Durham which matches up with coach availability.
The County Association decided to use some of the money, which would have been used to deliver the junior county squad, to grow junior badminton across the county by investing into the local clubs and encouraging them to develop junior participation.
In 2022/23 over £2,000 was awarded to 9 badminton clubs across the county to help them to grow and develop.
